Nine DEN Stars and Sweetie took a train from New York City to Vermont to attend the Summer Institute. It was so much fun! We met an amazing crew who took care of us like royalty!

DEN Stars on the train: Cheryl Woolwine, Judy Uhrig, Traci Blazosky, Gena Price, Emma Haygood, Katie Warren, Carolyn Rains, Paula Naugle, Jan Abernethy and Sweetie!

We had the pleasure of staying at one of the coolest, most technological hotel ever called, "Yotel." Here is a link to the Yotel website: http://www.yotel.com/Hotels/New-York-City

The Cake Boss!

One of the highlights of our trip was our visit to the Cake Boss store! YUM!!!!

A Ride on the Subway

After a great lunch, we split off into groups to explore the city. Sweetie and I had ridden on the "L" in Chicago last year, so we thought, "Why not tackle the subway?"

We finally meet up with DEN Stars!

As Sweetie and I were leaving the memorial, we ran into our DEN crew!

The 911 Memorial

In the afternoon, Sweetie and I headed over to the 911 memorial. Seeing the memorial was a beautiful, but sobering experience. Currently, the North Pool, South Pool, and garden are open and the museum is very close to be opening. The memorial will be opening in stages over the next few years. To learn more about the 911 Memorial go to: http://www.911memorial.org.

DEN Star Katie Warren!!!

We were strolling around the city, and suddenly we ran into California DEN Star, Katie Warren! She was buying a ticket to ride the Grayline On-Off Bus.

After seeing Katie off, a police officer asked if we would like to tag along with him as he patrolled the city. I consulted with Sweetie and since she kind of liked his horse we went along.

The Big Apple!

Can you believe it? Sweetie and I are in New York City!!!!

Off to the Big Apple!!!

At first Sweetie and I thought we could make it back to New York City on foot. We realized we were not going to make it in time to see the DEN crew arriving on July 10. When we spoke to some real friendly people in a small town in Connecticut, they introduced us to the nicest man. He happened to have his own private jet that he used to fly celebrities around the world. He decided that Sweetie definitely qualified as a celebrity. He was so honored to meet her, he said he would fly us to New York City to meet our friends FOR FREE!!!!!

I was a little nervous when I saw the plane, but
Sweetie had complete faith in our new friend, the pilot.

Sweetie and I had the whole plane to ourselves.
We really enjoyed all the leg room!!!!

Lake Winnipesaukee

Sweetie and I got some fabulous news yesterday! We learned that a bunch of DEN Stars are meeting in New York City on July 10th. The next day they are taking a train to Vermont. There is no way Sweetie and I are going to pass up this opportunity. We turned around and are now heading back to New York City. Couldn't resist a quick stop at Lake Winnipesaukee, though. What a beautiful place!

Hang in there DEN friends, Tracey Blazoski, Tracie Belt, Emma Haygood, Gena Price, Katie Warren, Paula Naugle, Cheryl Woolwine, Judy Uhrig, Margie Rogers, Carolyn Rains, and honorary star Patty Ward. Sweetie and I are on our way!!!!!

DEN Star Jennifer Kraft

DEN Star Jennifer Kraft was shocked when Sweetie and I showed up on her doorstep in Frackville! Nonetheless, she welcomed us and even let us spend the night before we were on our way. Thanks, Jen! Can't wait to see you in Vermont!

DEN Star DiAnne Galm

After a long trek, Sweetie and I were parched. Imagine our surprise when we came across DEN Star DiAnne Galm serving snow cones at the North Catasauqua Park. We sat down at a picnic table, ate some snow cones, and shared DEN stories until it was necessary for her to get back to work and for Sweetie and I to get back on the road. Thanks, DiAnne! Can't wait to see you again at DENSI 2013 in Vermont!

Crazy Weather!

Crazy weather this month! One day it's 80 degrees, the next it's 50 degrees! Sweetie and I keep plugging along through it all. Nothing is gonna stop us! We will be in Vermont in July!

Philadelphia and DEN Stars!!!!!

Sweetie and I arrived in Philadelphia and headed right for Old City. We couldn't wait to see the sights...the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, and Betsy Ross's house. I couldn't believe it! Everytime I turned around, I saw a DEN Star. I saw LeaAnne Dougherty, Margie Rogers, Amy Cordova, Mark Perlman and Kim Adair. Mark and Kim live in Philly and I ran into them at a Phillies game. I'm not sure what the rest of them were doing in town, but it sure was fun to see them all!

DEN Super Star R. J. Stangherlin

Sweetie and I caught up with R. J. Stangherlin at the Perlman Center for Advanced Medicine. She was getting ready for her last chemo infusion. In two weeks she will get an Echo, PFT, Bone Marrow and PET Scan. The week of June 3, they will collect stem cells, and she will be hospitalized from June 18 until mid-July. Despite everything, R. J. is positive and looks as classy as ever. She raved about Dr. Nasta and credits him with saving her life.

Well R. J., we all owe a debt of gratitude to Dr. Nasta, too. On behalf of the entire DEN community, we look to you for inspiration, we love you, and we are grateful to have you in our lives!

Valley Forge

We had to stop at Valley Forge! Learned a ton about the Revolutionary War, but we're on our way again.

DEN Star Sheila Fredericks

Sweetie and I were walking along and I started to get hungry. We decided to stop at the Inn at Saint Peter's Village. As our waitress was taking us to our seat, I had to do a double take. There at a table with a group of people was none other than the DEN Star Sheila Fredericks. She explained that she was part of a group called the Chester County Camera Club. They were having a bite to eat and then going out to take pictures around town. It sounded like a great time, so Sweetie and I crashed Sheila's party and had a blast!

Lancaster, PA

Sweetie and I arrived in Lancaster County today which is often called Amish Country. When Sweetie and I came across an Amish buggy, the horse pulling it turned in shock to look at Sweetie. Since I was giving her a rest and I needed to stretch my legs, I was just leading her down the road. That horse must have been really jealous when she looked at how easy Sweetie had it. Of course, we know the truth!
This Amish horse looks appalled that Sweetie doesn't have to pull a buggy.
We saw lots of covered bridges in Lancaster.

Gettysburg, PA

There is no way we could be this close to Gettysburg and not stop by. We had a great time looking at the monuments and battle fields. We weren't surprised at all to run into Jim Beeghley and his family. Jim is an aficionado on Civil War history. If you are interested in the Civil War, you should definitely check out his website: Teaching the Civil War with Technology. You will be amazed by the resources you will find!
